Step 1: Getting Started

We applaud you on your desire to assist with CAP Emergency Services training and missions. The list below will help you complete the basic training necessary to participate in training. There are multiple paths available to complete this training.  The MD Wing Emergency Services Academy is a great options but is available as scheduled by Wing. Self-Study will allow you to complete these steps on your own time and if you are dedicated to completing your qualifications will allow you to accomplish these fairly quickly.  Later in your training you will have to learn skills and demonstrate them to a skills evaluator. Our squadron has several skills evaluators who you can work with to complete your qualifications.

Please note:

  • Cadets must complete your Curry Achievement before completing ES training.
  • Seniors must complete your Level 1 before completing ES training.

Please complete the following:

Task 1: Complete General Emergency Services Training

To do this you have three options:

  1. Participate in the MD Wing Emergency Services Academy GES 101
    1. Check the Wing Calendar for scheduled training opportunities.
  2. Self-Study
    1. Study CAPR 60-3: CAP EMERGENCY SERVICES TRAINING AND OPERATIONAL MISSIONS
    2. Study CAPR 173-3: Payment for Mission Support  (Includes ICL 18-08, ICL 19-07, and ICL 19-09)
    3. Complete exam CAPT 116: General ES under the AXIS training system in eServices.
  3. Team study within the Squadron
    1. Periodically the Squadron will host a GES course for members who do not have this course. At the conclusion of the review session you will complete exam CAPT 116: General ES under the AXIS training system in eServices.

Task 2: Complete Introductory Communications User Training (ICUT)

To do this you have two options:

  1. Participate in the MD Wing Emergency Services Academy GES 101
    1. Check the Wing Calendar for scheduled training opportunities.
  2. Self Study
    1. This consists of several online videos and quizzes under the AXIS training system in eServices.
    2. Complete your hands-on practical evaluation with a skills evaluator in the Squadron.

If you have completed the tasks above. Congratulations, you are well on the way to your first qualification.
